Through collaborative and cross-disciplinary working practices, participants will co-imagine and create an installation in the T14 gallery space that responds to provocations on the theme of Utopia. Through active dialogue and questioning usual modes of making, this workshop will be a deep dive into visual language and conceptual approaches in the development of an idea from inception to final form. It will also be an opportunity to explore how creative processes can be used as a tool, proposing alternatives ways of doing in the world.

The workshop, theoretical and practical is aimed at artists, creatives, researchers interested in Utopia as a theme and willing to open a practical dialogue on it. Participants before the start of the workshop will be asked to respond to specific inherent stimuli and react freely, for example by bringing images (still and moving), objects, sounds, texts, or other that they consider relevant, which will be the starting point of the creative process.

Beyond Beyond are cross-disciplinary artist duo Giulia Astesani and Roshana Rubin-Mayhew. Their work explores queering as a methodology to revision and action beyond the current state of things. Often collaborative in approach, they propagate a multiplicity of otherwise perspectives that seek to destabilise the hegemony that has formed the foundations of our present mainstream thinking and cultures. From art installations to workshops and lecturing, Beyond Beyond’s work could be understood as polymorphous platforms of desire, or portals, to other possible worlds and ways of being. Beyond Beyond teach at European Institute of Design, Milan and have run workshops for London College of Communication (University of the Arts London), Islington Mill Art Academy (Salford) and IED.
