The inaugural national Jerwood/Photoworks Awards seek outstanding proposals in relation to new approaches to photography.

Three winners will be awarded £5000 each to support the making of new work whilst taking part in an unprecedented mentoring opportunity, with access to a pool of established and desirable mentors throughout their development year.

The programme will culminate in a group exhibition as part of the Jerwood Visual Arts programme at Jerwood Space, London, with a subsequent exhibition tour in the UK.

The Awards are open to UK based art practitioners using photography who are within ten years of graduating or establishing their practice. Shortlisted artists will be interviewed by an influential panel of five judges, who will make the three Awards. Shortlisted artists will also have their work showcased on the Photoworks website.

The deadline for submissions is 5pm Monday 1 December 2014.

The panelists

Celia Davies, Director, Photoworks
Shonagh Manson, Director, Jerwood Charitable Foundation
Broomberg & Chanarin, artists
Lucy Moore, Director, Claire de Rouen Books

Who is it for?

The Jerwood/Photoworks Awards are open to all art practitioners using photography. Moving image work is not eligible for the Awards.

You need not be a British National to apply, but applicants must be resident in the UK.

There is no age limitation and no requirement for art school or university education. Applicants will be expected to be within ten years of establishing their practice or graduating.

What are we looking for?

We will be looking for strong ideas for new work that draw on the open opportunity for research and new approaches to photography; we are not necessarily looking for ‘ready for production’ projects. We would like to hear about the idea you wish to develop, about how this Award and the access to mentoring support could uniquely help you achieve that, and how you perceive it could benefit your practice and development.
