photo basel, Switzerlandâ€™s first and only international art fair dedicated to the photographic medium, is delighted to announce its gallery list for the third edition. Taking place again at the Volkshaus Basel, the fair runs from 14 â€“ 18 June 2017, coinciding with Art Basel. This year, a contingent of 37 exhibitors, present works by artists from 13 countries in three sections: the main section, tape/basel and the not-for-profit section. photo basel brings together galleries from around the world, fostering a dialogue between members of the photographic and broader art world communities. A strong group of galleries from Europe will be joined by exhibitors from China, Georgia, Japan, Latin America and the USA.
Newcomers to the fair include Catharine Clark (USA), Kana Kawanashi (Japan), Mariane Ibrahim Gallery (USA) and Galerie Springer (Germany). Returning galleries include Esther Woerdehoff (France), Flatland (Netherlands), Dix9 (France), Grundemark Nilsson (Germany/Sweden), Bildhalle (Switzerland), and Camara Oscura (Spain).
photo basel is pleased to announce a new sector titled tape/basel which is entirely devoted to the moving image, featuring artistsâ€™ films and videos. It is co-curated by Canadian-Swiss curator Chantal Molleur.
The not-for-profit section showcases nominees from the vfg-NachwuchsfÃ¶rderpreis (Young Artistâ€™s Prize for Photography), a highly respected annual award which is produced by the vfg (association of creative photographers), Switzerland. The programme is designed to showcase new talent within Switzerland. Also featured in this section is photography by the students and alumni of FHNW Academy of Art and Design in Switzerland, curated by the academyâ€™s Director, Chus MartÃnez.
From its foundation year 2015, photo basel has become established as one of the most prominent photography fairs in the German speaking world. As a fair with a high calibre range of work from both younger and more established galleries, photo basel attracts international visitors and exhibitors.
