Applications for the first thematic edition of the International Summer School of Photography - "Photography and the World" are now open! For its 13th edition, the ISSP is shifting towards a thematic focus and greater interdisciplinary engagement. The workshops and expert interventions will be looking at photography as a possible tool for positive change, with reference to global issues the world is facing today.

ISSP 2019 will take place at Za?enieki Manor, Latvia, from 12 - 20 July 2019 featuring six workshops with  Mathieu Asselin & Sergio Valenzuela Escobedo - "The Camera as Political Apparatus", Anthony Luvera & Vincen Beeckman - "(Un)Making Images Together: Photography and Collaboration", The Cool Couple - "Astronauts vs. Poets: Utopia, Dystopia and Visual Ecology", Natasha Caruana -"The Personal as Political", Alfonso Borragán - "Photography and Ritual: The Revealing Machine" and Tanya Habjouqa "Storytelling as a Tool for Social Change", as well as interbventions by experts working around the edges of art and activism. Photographers and practitioners of various other disciplines dealing with connections between visual art and society are welcome to apply. .

A number of scholarships are available from VV Foundation, Tandem and Higashikawa Town of Photography for participants from Latvia, Turkey, the Arab region and Japan.
