Black Middle Class/ Black Diamonds

The term "Black Diamonds" is a name given to the new black economic and political elite of South Africa. They are a diverse group, ranging from youth who are still living at home and studying, start-me-ups’ who are starting out in a big wide world and families that have young kids and work for local or multinational co-operations.

The growth of this class is one of the signal successes of the post-apartheid government.  The increasing gulf between the incomes and prospects of the rich and the poor (which political and economic cronyism have only exacerbated) is its overwhelming failure. The Black Diamonds remain intimately connected to South Africa's townships, where, in fact, many of them continue to live.

Places like Panyaza in Rockville, Soweto have benefited from this and more people are coming for it's overwhelming atsmophere.
