Danilo Luna (b.1990) is a Brazilian visual artist based in São Paulo, working with photography, video and installation.
His series "Revoada do vaga-lume"has been selected for The Smell Of Dust III.

The process of creation of the series "revoada do vaga-lume" (flight of the firefly) comes from the intuitive and erratic process of connections from divergent images bringing together different perspectives.
The possibility of creating a metaphorical non-linear narrative has put in this project a never-ending process, where the discourse and the perception reveal different levels of accumulation and interpretation.

An image never stands for itself, all the conceptual research operates together with the history of Photography, I cannot define a single way. Here the field of Photography is contaminated with the visual arts and other disciplines. Photography is not an isolated medium, the past and the present coexist in the flux of the medium creating modes of reading.

This work does not reflect a particular type of subject, I wanted to reveal the symbolic power of Photography. Thus, I invite the viewer to discover the paradox of the image by the way of unique images which have exclusive characteristics in relation to the entire body of work. On the wall I don´t restrict the photographs to a single size, the space between the images is as much important as the image. These heterogeneous aspects induce a subjective sense. And when I use a greater variety of symbolic subjects, my interest is in the conceptual and poetic side of the work by using codes of the Photography to create sense.

Another layer of interpretation is the image of the firefly, that I induce in the title of the work, this insect operates like a key, its symbolic aspect translate some characteristics that the viewer can associate metaphorically with the photographic medium, for example, the darkness and the light, or something occult that need to be revealed.
