Adam Bellefeuil was born in Detroit, Michigan and lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. For more than fifteen years he has worked professionally as a video games designer, creating fantasy worlds inside a computer. Through photography, he's concerned with taking a closer look at the places we live.
Some years ago I began photographing at night during the winter months, naturally because there are fewer daylight hours during that time of year. But wandering frigid residential streets and waiting sometimes for minutes-long exposures, I became intoxicated by a familar world made strange under moonlight; blankets of tree shadows, house windows aglow and a sky like "a black basin always spilling stars" (Muriel Rukeyser). Pictures of homes and surrounding neighborhood at night made in Raleigh, North Carolina, the city where I live.
